| BorderWaters Holds Big Time Tournaments
The BorderWaters area is home to some of the greatest angling opportunities anywhere in the world, and in turn is home to some of the greatest tournaments anywhere.
There are tournaments for every skill level and tournaments for almost any species you want to try to catch. Nearly all of the tournaments in BorderWaters are also catch and release events. This ensures that the fish being caught during the event are released alive and back into the lakes they came from!
Walleye and bass are the big draw for competitors from all across Canada as well as the states. These big time events draw some of the biggest names in the fishing world. Al, Ron, And Jimmy Linder, Norm and Dave Lindsey, John Butts, and legendary angler Gary Roach all compete in tournaments in the BorderWaters area. If you are after walleyes, the Gary Roach Invitational on Minaki, the Red Lake Classic, the Emo Walleye Classic and more will test your skills against not only old marble eyes but also some of the best walleye anglers in the world!
Bass anglers from as far away as Florida, Tennessee, and Texas come north to compete in the Kenora Bass International, Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship and The International Falls Bass Championship. With tournament
names like Bassing for Bucks you know these are big time events!
With a tournament somewhere in BorderWaters almost every weekend, you are sure to find an event that will fill your competitive needs. BorderWaters tournaments are not just limited to the professional ranks. Some events pair professionals with kids Ñ a great way to introduce kids to the sport of fishing. Many teams in the big time tournaments are also made up of father son/daughter teams as well.
In addition to these great events there are also ice fishing derbies for the hard water season. These are great events the whole family can attend and compete in. Many of these events have great prizes that are given out for random weights, so just catching a fish may put you in the winnerÕs circle.
If you have never attended a tournament weigh-in, plan to do so if there is one at your vacation destination. Many of these events are two and three days of competition that include huge weigh-in tents, kidÕs events, boat parades and beverage tents.
They are truly exciting and make for a great day for the entire family.
Watching the exciting full throttle take offs in the early morning hours and then the excitement at weigh-in time when the anglers show off their catch from the lakes is an experience that is worthwhile.
