Fishing, Swimming, Wildlife Watching – and balmy temperatures!

Travelers to the BorderWaters certainly enjoy some of the best fishing in North America. The clean waters also provide many opportunities for wildlife watching, boating – and swimming!

Over the next four to five days, the BorderWaters region is forecasted to have above average daytime temperatures (80’s in most parts – reaching low 90’s in others). It doesn’t take long for northern lakes to warm up in spring. By the middle of June, lake temps are refreshingly perfect – even for the “temp timid” swimmer. So jump in!

Fishing reports throughout the region vary – but there is consistency in walleye reports. Warmer water temperatures are luring walleye (and northern pike) away from shallow bays and structure and into deeper water (anywhere from 18 to 26 feet). Find structure, and your luck will increase. Medium sized chubs and shiners seem to be the “hot bait” sold at area bait shops – although we have been advised leeches are also tempting walleye.

It’s been an exciting summer season in the BorderWaters region so far – and there is a lot more summer left for fishing, recreating, waterfront dining and simply relaxing! We’ll see you on the decks, docks – and beaches!
